My dog is burying his face. What's causing this unusual behavior?

There are several things that could cause this to happen: bacterial or fungal infection of the skin, splinter out other foreign body under the skin, itchy nose (allergies), tooth root issues, among a few others. You can try rubbing some hydrocortisone cream into it or rubbing an ice cube on it. He may need to wear an e-collar/cone to stop the behavior. But if it continues for another day or two, I would have Perrin checked out by a vet.

Hello, I would be concerned with dirt getting into her eyes and causing irritation as well. I would keep her from digging if you could. Perhaps she is digging because she is anxious or bored, so providing her with some toys or something to keep her distracted like a Kong toy would be ideal. If the digging persists the. This can be caused by bacterial or fungal infections as well as allergic reactions. Unfortunately, some fungal infections such as ringworm can come from soil and be transmitted to people. I recommend having Brooke seen by a vet as soon as possible - she may need antibiotics to resolve the infection and itching. I hope this helps and that all is well!

Hello. Whiskers are thick, this is normal. Itching face and redness isn't normal. Itching face could be due to ear infection or mites, allergies, or if very sudden could be a bug bite or bee sting. Watch for facial swelling or hives and if present have him to a vet right away. If the itching persists then have his skin checked by a vet. Good luck!

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach to address your concerns. What you are describing sounds behavioral but could potentially be caused by allergies as well. If Marbles has an allergy and is itchy around the face this may be his way of itching his face by rubbing it on the carpet. You can try Benadryl to see if this helps and also using a shampoo such as Duoxo PS Calm shampoo to see if this stops or decreases the behavior. Thank you for your question. Many dogs like to hide things, including treats and food. This is probably a remnant from their ancestors who may have had to hide some of their food items to protect it from other members of their pack or predators. We would not consider this a problem behavior unless he is becoming aggressive around his buried food/toys.
