Azithromycin disolves very badly in water, you should speak to your vet or pharmacist about adjusting her prescription for a suspension/syrup which is formulated as a liquid and diluted appropriately so as to retain activity

The vet may recommend blood work or abdominal x-rays after performing a physical exam to make sure there are no other underlying diseases that may have caused Lupe to vomit blood. I would worry that this is unrelated to the azithromycin since she finished the medication yesterday.

In dogs, currently erythromycin is considered the drug of choice in treating campylobacter. That being said, we are seeing cases with drug resistance with this bacteria, so ideally a culture and sensitivity is performed to determine the best drug in each individual situation. This is a bacteria that can also make humans ill, so precautions should be taken to prevent transmission including good hygeine/hand washing and avoiding the pet being around people with suppressed immune systems. I don;t recommend to start an antibiotic unless it is confirmed there is a bacterial or protozoal problem. When antibiotics are used without just cause, that's how antibiotic resistance can develop. Hello. I would be a little concerned as to why a puppy this young could come down with a cold. The immunity a puppy gets from its mother usually remains very high until it begins to wane around 8 weeks of age. That is why we start puppy vaccinations at this time. My best advice is to have the puppy examined within a day or so of you obtaining possession. I am not concerned about the Zithromax as this is usually well tolerated, but I would like you to make sure the puppy's heart & lungs sound normal.
