Customers say

Customers overwhelmingly praise this food for converting even the pickiest eaters into eager consumers, with dogs described as "gobbling it up" and showing visible excitement at mealtime. Most report significant health improvements including shinier coats, increased energy levels, and better digestion. Many switched after their dogs refused other brands and now find their pets enthusiastically consume meals. A very small number report rare digestive upset, but the vast majority consider this a high-quality, nutritious option that delivers both palatability and wellness benefits.

Garbage dog food

Todd

I've purchased a few different types for my senior dog. She will not eat it. If she does, it's only for a couple of days. I've had to eat the cost of this food several times. Don't buy.

Hi Todd, we're sorry to hear your pup didn’t enjoy our recipes. When trying Freshpet for the first time, we recommend making a gradual transition over 7-10 days by mixing it with their current food and slowly increasing the amount. This can help prevent food refusal and tummy upset. You can find more tips on transitioning here: https://www.freshpet.com/blog/how-to-transition-your-pet-to-fresh-food We hope this helps!

Over this past summer my recently retired Police Dog Rocky stopped eating his regular dried dog food. Rocky is a 7-year-old Belgium Malinois. I have always fed him premium brand dog foods, but during this time he just stopped. I tried a fresher bag as well as several other brands, but he would not eat. Rocky lost 20 lbs. and was diagnosed with having a small mass in his intestine which seemed to be causing some blockage. Without a 10,000-12,000-dollar surgery there was no way to determine what the mass actually is. With this information I was forced to consider putting him down. Before I was to make this decision, I wanted to exhaust everything possible. So, I bought several different brands of soft food, as well as several brands of raw foods, including yours. Rocky wouldn't touch most of them and the ones he did eat a little of he ended up throwing them up. Once he tried your chicken Vital line he ate it slowly. I watched him closely over the day to see if he would throw it up, but to my amazement he didn't. Over the course of several days, he began to get his normal eating behavior back and anxiously awaits feeding time again. It has now been about 2 weeks eating your brand of raw dog food and he is eating around 2-21/2 ponds a day without throwing up. The cost is to feed him is higher than dry, but to know he is eating gives me hope. In conclusion I don't know what ingredients or process you use but Rocky seems to, and I will trust his instincts over mine. I am monitoring him closely and hoping for him to regain his weight back. I feel fortunate that I was able to find your product and I have more time with my partner. Sincerely, Kevin Halsey

I recently tried this with my senior chihuahua (16 years old) due to having many teeth removed and he was having difficulty with hard dry kibble. He had lost weight and was hardly eating, I tried everything including cooking his food and he would turn up his nose to everything. Thanks to Smart Pet he is eating again and loves this!

Not for pregnant dogs

VALERIE

Thought this food was high quality. My boston terrier was pregnant for the first time, and we'd used this food for my daughter's dog without problems. This time 3 out of 4 puppies had problems. Major problems. That to me means environmental, not genetic since each problem was different. Not for pregnant dogs.

Questions

1 - 10 of 14 Questions

This product help to soften my dog's kibbles? Can I use this as a kibble topper?

  1. Yes, but you will need to slice it and maybe crumble it up because it comes in a firm roll.

Can this be frozen?

  1. Yes. This can be frozen. I slice mine into small wedges and leave in small baggies in the freezer. I give medicine (smashed pill form) with them and my dog loves it.

Yes, I have the bag fresh pet bottles fresh cut chicken recipe. Does it have to be refrigerated before it’s opened

  1. Yes.....always!

In the Torrington,CT Petco, Why are they charging $30.29 for a 6lb loaf of FreshPet Vital Chicken/ Brown Rice and Carrots when online it  says $18.49 for a 6lb loaf of the same and available in the Torrington Petco?

  1. I do not live in CT, but I would guess that the local store has probably higher overhead, and those are then passed on to the customer. I apologize if my answer is not too much help.

Someone else has asked this question, but there is no reply.  WHAT IS THE SODIUM CONTENT OF FRESH PET VITAL... CHICKEN, TURKEY, AND SALMON RECIPES?

How long can it be refrigerated if it stays unopened?

    1. It has an expiration date on each roll.  The ones that I have don’t expire until 11/03/2021.

    Can puppies eat this?

Can the Vital dog food be frozen ?

      1. Yes. I buy the large size for my small dogs because it costs about half as much per pound.  I cut it into pieces that will each last 4-5 days, then use my Foodsaver to vacuum seal them.  I don't let it go all the way with the vacuum because it pulls too much moisture out, just until the air is gone, then I hit the seal button.

Can you microwave it to warm it up

      1. I do...10-15 seconds

what is a french bulldog average size meal? Portion per roll?
