DIRECTIONS

Ideal feeding amounts will vary by age, weight, and activity level so the guide below should be used as an initial recommendation. Divide the cups per day by the number of feedings per day. Be sure to always provide clean, fresh water. Along with dry food, we recommend feeding raw or wet food to help increase the amount of water in your pet's diet. Daily Feeding Guidelines (standard 8 oz dry measuring cup): Adult Maintenance (cups per day): 5 lb: 3/8 cup; 10 lb: 1/2 cup; 15 lb: 3/4 cup, Weight Loss (cups per day): 5 lb: 1/4 cup; 10 lb: 3/8 cup; 15 lb: 1/2 cup, Kittens: Feed up to twice the adult maintenance amount. Pregnant/Nursing Females: Feed up to three times the adult maintenance amount shown above. My cat ate this food for a while, that was until she became very sick and vomited every day for weeks on end. We took her to the vet, who diagnosed her with elevated kidney levels. We really thought we were going to have to deal with early onset kidney disease for a four year old cat. At our vet’s suggestion, we changed her to wet food to give her more hydration for the supposed kidney disease. We were surprised to find that she stopped vomiting the very next day. The next time we went to the vet, her kidney values returned to normal and matched any other cat. I come to see other reviews that say the formula has changed, and I have to agree with them. We originally purchased this food because of all the great claims on the bag, but now I feel like this was a lie. This incident has destroyed any trust I have for this brand and I will not purchase from them ever again.

Please do not buy this food. Instinct has changed this food. If you look at your older bag of this food and the newer bags they used to have a logo on the top left corner of the bag. Those are the original bags we loved. The bags with no top left logo are the changed ingredients bag. If you read online so many people have complained about these changes making their cats sick. Just like it made my cat sick and I have since bought from a different brand. Instinct was very deceptive with their customers as they dis not state on the website, bags, or social media that the food has been changed. Shameful. Will never buy from them again.

Our last recipe change for this product was in early 2024 when the raw coating on this recipe was changed from chicken to pollock. This was mentioned on our website as well as shared with our retail partners and distributors. Third bag just bought and might return if this diarrhea doesn't stop! The first bag was great. Helped his tummy issues. The second bag had a very very smelly product and caused soft poops and now diarrhea.

I recently switched my cats' favorite food ACANA to Instinct, as suggested, to avoid developing food allergies. My kitties are on their second bag now. The first bag was alright but in the second I found a pink/red color chunk of rubber. Good thing, I have a small scoop which I use to fill my kitties' bowls and can spot any foreign objects. If I used this food in automatic feeder, one of my kitties would have invested it !! Can someone explain, what does a piece if rubber doing in the bag of cat food? Is there a chance there is rubber inside the food, as well? I am worried now and regret switching the food. This has never happened neither with ACANA not with any other brand, even cheaper one.

The company has changed the ingredients. They removed the freeze dried chicken coating and replaced it with freeze dried pollock. Also the freeze dried chicken liver/heart was removed. This is basically a fish food now with a little chicken in it. I dont know why companies do this. Please go back to the original ingredients. This new recipe is horrible. Do not buy!

The food is great .. Petco is not. I got a coupon in the mail and the promo code didnt even work. I had to call petco to get a manager approval. Took forever for the food to ship.

I've been feeding Instinct Original pretty much since the company was founded. I don't buy it for the raw and specifically stick to Original because it has the least raw properties. I buy because the ingredients are the best out there for high animal based protein and fat with the other ingredients being species relevant instead of filler. I'm grateful you switched Original's raw coating to fish from chicken. With fish being the only raw ingredient and worried about the latest version of the bird flu, Original seems safer. I know raw is what you market but I wish you also had options for the same high quality food without any raw.

To the manufacturer: Why do you put menadion sodium bisulfite (sp?) in this food? Obviously if we are willing to pay this much for a good quality food, we expect real vitamin K and not menadione sodium bisulfiite

Would this food be recommended for a Fiv positive cat? Concerned that the label says "contains a source of live, naturally occurring microorganisms ". Are ingredients really "raw"?

Hello! Although our food is formulated to meet all AAFCO nutrient requirements to be complete and balanced for all life stages, it’s not formulated for special needs pets. For pets with special needs, we recommend consulting with your trusted veterinarian to choose the right food. If your vet has certain nutrient requirements, we will be happy to work with them to try to find a good diet for your pet. The temperature of the product during the extrusion process is a minimum of 185 degrees Fahrenheit. The product is then transferred to the dryer for 18-23 minutes at temperatures ranging from 200 to 280 degrees. That said, this product does contain a freeze-dried raw coating.

Are any of the "globally sourced ingredients" from China? I had a bad experience in the past with toxic stuff from China and my cats suffered for it.
