Customers say

Customers overwhelmingly praise this kitten weaning formula for helping kittens transition to solid food, with most noting kittens readily accept it and gain weight quickly. Reviewers consistently report that picky or struggling kittens begin eating after the formula is mixed in, and many foster caregivers credit it with supporting undernourished animals. The formula is described as versatile, mixing easily with wet food or kibble. Some customers report digestive issues like diarrhea or vomiting, particularly when introduced too quickly, though symptoms often resolve once kittens fully transition to solid food. Despite occasional concerns, most customers recommend it as an effective weaning tool.

Made my kitten very sick

jenniferk

I really wanted this to work, especially given all the positive reviews, but this formula made my kitten seriously ill. After just a few days of use, he was vomiting and had severe diarrhea. I ended up switching to a different liquid formula, and within 12 hours my kitten was dramatically better. When I mentioned my experience to a Petco employee, he wasn't surprised at all and told me the quality of this product just isn't great compared to other options on the market. I'd encourage anyone using this to keep a close eye on how their kitten is responding, and don't hesitate to switch if you notice stomach issues. I wish I had sooner.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I found a 3 week old kitty outside of my work and got him this it helped so much. He could barely walk when I found him, he wasn’t eating solid food or drinking water because he couldn’t. I got him this and yes it made him gassy a little, no runny stools though and he drank it like a champ and when he would hear me shake the bottle to mix it he would scream like a baby. He’s so much bigger now and eating solid food and drinking water but still wants a bottle before bed lol.

Yes, I recommend this product.

It gave my kitten really bad diarrhea. I don't know why since she was fine on the regular formula before this. It appears I'm not the only one with this issue after reading other reviews.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I bought this around the 7 week mark. They are still using it. This product is great for weaning kittens. It provides them the nutrients they still need while allowing us to introduce kitten kibble. This product has been a blessing. I highly recommend it. It has saved my three kittens.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Just a reminder NEVER give a kitten ICE water or cold water their it can drop there internal body temperature down which there bodies cannot regulate room temperature or lukewarm is minimum. This stuff work wonderfully and is a great easy option when used correctly. IE read and fallow instructions on the label. Plus our kitten loved this went to eating it right away. He had a sinus infection when we found him which made the stage one a little harder for him and was so little I would have the crush up the hard kitten food before mixing with the stage one This stage 2 formula makes it so you don't need to do this and is a gradual process that is easier on there gastrointestinal system as it switches from processing an all liquid to solid.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 6 of 6 Questions

is the powder?

  1. Yes. It is powdered as you have to mix with water

Is KMR step 2 safe for kittens under 3 weeks of age? Can it be watered down to use as formula? My local tractor supply was out of the regular KMR

  1. The KMR 2nd step is meant to be used as a weaning food when transitioning kittens from milk replacer to kitten food, this cannot be fed in place of a milk replacer and should not be fed to kittens under 5 weeks of age. This product should not be fed through a bottle as well. We recommend a milk replacer for kittens newborn to around 5 weeks of age. If you have any other questions please reach out to us at 1-800-323-0877 or consumerrelations@petag.com

I have a kitten (4mo) who loves the heavy cream we use for coffee but unfortunately does not tolerate it. Could I give him this as a treat instead?  Only as a treat, not as his diet.

  1. Yes, you could even mix it with wet food. This is very likely what it has eaten up to this point.

So, I have a outdoor kitten and he seems to have been separated from his mother to early I don't know how old he is is it safe to give it to him?

  1. If he's old enough to lap it from a bowl it is safe. You may have to push his nose into it gently so he will lick it off his nose and know it's food. You can mush up canned food in it as he gets to eating more . I used it for my elderly cat to give her added nutrition. Consult your vet or google info on feeding kittens.

KMR 2nd step kitten food, does it make kittens constipated? Thank you!

  1. Thank you for your question. If your kitten is experiencing constipation, we would recommend an examination with your veterinarian to rule out underlying causes such as parasites, dehydration, and other medical conditions. While any food could potentially cause constipation in some animals, there is often an underlying cause other than the food that needs to be addressed.

how old does a kitten have to be to eat kmr 2

  1. The package says 4-8 weeks. I'm feeding it to my feral rescues at 4 weeks.
