A few general recommendations: stick with well known brands with a good reputation. Look for products made in the USA. Kibble works great for treats and I use Purina Pro Plan chicken or lamb and rice. Dry biscuit type treats usually have less calories and salt. The jerky or moist type treats are fine in moderation (they have more calories and salt usually). Lastly, many dogs really like dehydrated chicken livers and chicken jerky. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

My favorite brands of food are Acana, Origen, Lotus and Hobest Kitchen. You can see if they are available in your area. Some of the freeze dried raw diets such as honest kitchen are very palatable to picky eaters. I also find that adding fish oil and warm water to dry kibble can be very appetizing. It is also a very healthy supplement for them.

Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. It sounds like PhatPhat has underlying allergies. That being said, it is not likely to be a true food allergy. If you play the odds, it is more likely to be an environmental allergy. The only way to know for sure if she has a food allergy is to have her allergy tested. I would really recommend you have that done. To answer your question specifically about dog food that is small bites and no red dye, I would recommend this one. Hello. Grain free labeling is more of a marketing to rather than an indication of a good food. I encourage brands that have passed the AAFCO food standards (it would say that on the bag usually by the nutritional information). These brands include Purina, Science Diet, Pedigree, Eukanuba, Blue Buffalo- In changing diets remember that sudden changes can be hard on the GI tract so gradually mixing in the new food is best.

Carrots, green beans, bananas, apples and omega 3 fatty acid supplements for pets are all excellent items to add to Penelope's kibble. The veggies can be fresh cooked (plain) or canned (no salt added). I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
